Position Summary

Monmouth University seeks a skilled conceptual thinker and writer to join its Marketing & Communications team. As part of this innovative department, you will be concepting, writing, editing and delivering content to both internal and external audiences. You must lead with a strategic mind, and be driven by target insights to craft the perfect message. We are looking for thought leaders and innovators. You should be able to move fluidly from print to digital to social, and adapt the voice to speak persuasively to the target audience. You will be reporting to the Creative Director. All candidates must provide a portfolio.

The candidate would be expected to: write clear, persuasive and original copy in a variety of formats and styles; curate content per platform (brochures, web, social, advertising, marketing, internal communication); craft compelling copy and produce finished pieces that tell engaging stories that inspire target audiences and highlight Monmouth University’s points of differentiation; ensure that the copy stays on brand and on message; research and collect content on- and off-campus; work both independently and with creative team to produce engaging copy; and keep up with current content marketing trends.

Other Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field. Five years of copywriting experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Knowledge of all major social platforms and their target audiences, and experience in creating social marketing campaigns (Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).

Expert knowledge of grammar, spelling and vocabulary. Proofreading and editing skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent brainstorming, writing and editorial experience.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience creating copy for all traditional, new and emerging media. A thorough understanding of and expertise in writing for different audiences. Must be able to make contributions in a strategic manner and add value to projects beyond the original assignment.

Willingness to embrace feedback and produce revisions in a timely manner. A proven track record of delivering copy and content on schedule. Capacity to coordinate multiple activities and prioritize conflicting demands. Ability to edit copy generated by others to the highest standards and to produce materials under tight timelines.

Preferred Qualifications

Advertising agency experience creating campaigns. Marketing and content strategy experience. Experience working with an art director partner, creating content for advertising and marketing purposes. Experience working/editing in a college or university setting. Basic InDesign skills.
