Position Summary

Monmouth University Is seeking applications for a HAWC Canine Behavior Research Coordinator – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the Psychology department.

Travel to an approved research site (open-admission animal shelter)in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on two separate days per week. While at the shelter, assist with one or more of the following duties: collecting, storing, and/or shipping of saliva samples from adoptable shelter dogs, collecting video footage of in-kennel behavior of adoptable shelter dogs, assisting with exercising/walking dogs, assisting with observing playgroups, assisting with checking surveillance equipment, and assisting shelter volunteer and staff with enrichment implementation and documentation. Work closely with shelter staff and volunteers and with research staff and volunteers in Monmouth University’s Human-Animal wellness Collaboratory {HAWC).

Other Requirements

Two years of college-level course work in Psychology,Animal Behavior, or Biology. Experience working with domestic dogs. Ability to work in a shelter environment and handle dogs.

Complete training required by the Monmouth University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) prior to working hands-on with any animals. Ability to find transportation to the shelter.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Animal Behavior,Biology or related field. Experience working with animals in a research setting. Experience working with dogs in a shelter,daycare, or laboratory setting. Experience collecting salivary cortisol or other biological samples.
